Jesus Built My Hotrod

I don’t remember exactly when The Nun came into my life, but I know that I was living in Atlanta. I think she came from the Junkman’s Daughter, and I’m pretty sure she was a gift, because honestly, I can’t see myself walking up the counter and purchasing her for myself. But then again, these were my crazier days, so perhaps it’s something I just don’t remember doing.

Never the less, she’s moved around from house to house with me, and I normally placed her in the food cabinet right next to the junk food as a reminder that everytime I was going back for a third or fourth helping of cookies that I was being watched, and that I was being very very naughty. It worked. I was as skinny as a rail. But during our move to Honolulu, she got packed into a box, and stayed there for 4 years. Is it any wonder that those have been the fattest years of my life? I don’t think so! The Nun, she has powers.

While unpacking boxes for a garage sale a couple of months ago, Basil unearthed The Nun. He left her out in the garage, and like a beacon, she called for Beckett from the bowels of the pile of unpacked boxes that remain. After only one day of playing with her, he started saying “Nun!” “Nun!” “Nun!”, and crying as we pried her from his tiny latex smelling hands. He’s taken her for rides in the Cozy Coupe, and stopped in mid full-throttle-downhill-plunge to sit her back up in the seat after her toppling over from the Cozy Coup’s Mach 4 G-force. I wouldn’t call his relationship with The Nun love, because he’s still a bit apprehensive about her, and shows fear through a trembling lip when she comes to life and tells him to eat his pears like a good little boy. I’d say that he likes her alot, and that it’s more of a RESPECT than a loving relationship. The Nun commands respect.

Tonight, Beckett took The Nun for a ride on his tricycle. It has a built in seat for her, you know…

That’s a boy, Beckett. A sister in need is a friend indeed.
