I am leaving for Honolulu tomorrow morning, and I may be the only person on Earth who doesn’t want to go to Hawaii for a week. It’s not for the lack of beauty or good food, and friends. It’s not that I don’t want to feel the warm Pacific ocean bubble up to my toes while I take a walk on the beach. It’s just that Beckett won’t be there.

I’ll miss the way he calls out from his crib in the mornings to wake us up: “MommyDaddy! Mommmmydadddddy!”, and when you open the door, every tooth in his mouth shows as he bounces on his toes and says, “Hi Mommy! Hi Daddy! Wanna watch Elmo!” At least we get a nod of acknowledgement before the daily Elmo obsession begins.

How can I not miss the boy who now says, “Cuse me” when he burbs, and who upon leaving my office to let me work says, “Bye, Mommy. I shut door”, and then reaches up and stands on his tippy toes to pull the knob. The playmate who insists on biting the dog back when she nibbles on his arms, and who says, “Rox! No, puppy!”

The boy who loves his Daddy so much that he’ll lie on his chest through an entire football game if you’d let him, and cheer “Gooooooooo!” He lights up when Basil is with him. It’s a love I’ve never seen before.

I’m going to miss them both.

Enjoy the new design, and I’ll see you all in Hawaii!
