So, as if I have nothing better to do…

So, as if I didn’t just start a new business, work a full time job on top of it, am raising a toddler, and leaving on Sunday for a business trip to the Pacific, today I picked up yarn and a pair of knitting needles with full intention of learning to knit.

Part of this makes perfect sense.  I’m about to go on a 12 hour plane ride, and man, I am so sick of only being able to read on the plane. My laptop is too big to use in coach, and I can’t bear the movies they normally play in the cabin. It would be impossible for me to scrapbook in the air. So, I thought, “Hey, I’ll just pick up knitting before I leave on Sunday!”

I’ve been watching videos on the Internet, and trying to take a serious knitting crash course. So far, I have successfully mastered (hah!) the double cast on.  And well, that’s as far as I’ve gotten. Tomorrow some sort of knitting miracle needs to happen. Please pray for me.

Beckett has always been a happy person. He has a big imagination, and loves to sing and pretend play.  This week there has been a lot of us running around the house from the Snow Monster.  Beckett is the Snow Monster. I’m Santa. Daddy is Yukon Cornelius. And Roxie is Rudolph.  Beckett always gets to be the coolest character, and he assigns us our roles, according to who he likes most at the moment.

“I’m Batman. Daddy, you’re Robin. And Mommy, you’re just Rob.”  Just Rob. Thanks!

Right now our world is also full of toddler songs. Every night while I’m working, I can hear Basil putting Beckett to bed, and they’ll sing songs. “Pair-a-Jaque-a. Pair-a-Jaque-a. Dormez vous. Dormez vous. Polly wants a cracker. Polly wants a cracker. Mommy, too. Mommy, too.”  I think somebody needs to get Basil a children’s songbook for Christmas.

So, Basil’s Christmas present came a little early.  Last night, his Wii arrived, and we are already completely addicted.  We stayed up last night until midnight bowling, playing golf, and we managed to get a couple of really good tennis matches going. 

Good thing the Christmas tree is blocking the two large double windows in the living room, or the neighbors would have definitely called the Looney Bin to pick us up. We were jumping and thrashing around in front of the TV, swinging and flailing our arms, and punching in thin air.  I even woke up with a bit of tennis elbow. And Basil was sweating so much during his 3 innings of baseball that he had to take his sweater off.  Heh. My evil plan of getting Basil naked and playing video games is finally working!

Basil asked me when the box arrived, “So, why am I getting my present three weeks early?”  My response? “Because I wanna PLAY!” 

Note to self: Breast reduction surgery necessary if I’m ever going to make it into the PGA.
