Wonderful Weekend

Monday, January 8th, 2007

I had a wonderful birthday weekend! Saturday morning started out with my boys making me coffee and delicious cranberry orange muffins.  Then I leisurely lounged on the couch, watching TV and being good and lazy.  Around 11 my mother picked me up, and we went SHOPPING! Always a fun way to spend your birthday.  Mama bought me an ottoman for the living room from Target that I’ve had my eye on, and of course she bought Beckett some pajamas. Beckett always scores on the Target runs.

Then we went to have lunch at Panera and were off to cash in on some of the gift card Basil’s mom gave us for Christmas from Pier One.  I picked out a gorgeous mirror for over the couch, and got a new set of dishes and glasses.  Thanks, Barb!  I still have money left on the card for future retail therapy. Life is good.

After our shopping extravaganza, mother and I came home and forced Basil to stop what he was doing to hang the mirror.  He obliged, and it looks great. I love it.  Then mother graciously took Beckett home with her so that Basil and I could spend a few hours alone together doing our favorite thing. Cleaning house. (sarcasm)

We had to make up a few extra beds since Michael and Evita and Miss Carter were coming for dinner and a slumber party. They rolled into town around 7, and we broke out the beers for a little pre dinner burpage.  Beckett saw the pretty black and white papered box that they had delivered to the dining room table, and immediately offered to help me open my present.

My jaw dropped when I saw a Silex vacuum pot from the 30s under the wrapping paper and a giant string of red sparkly garland.  If you want a perfectly brewed cup of coffee, this is definitely the way to brew it.  I have been verbally abusing Evita ever since I found out that she now owned TWO of these lovelies.  I guess she took the hint, because now one of them is proudly displayed in my kitchen. THANK YOU, sweeties! I love it.

They also gave me a batch of their very own microroasted coffee beans. You know how these situtations go…your first hit is free.  It’s no accident that I’ve been cruising the Sweet Maria’s website this morning looking at home roasters and green beans.  Thanks for always being my pusher, Evita.

We went out to Sullivan’s for dinner and drinks, and then came home to have cake with Mama. It was a wonderful evening out. And an even more wonderful evening in when we got home. We sat on the porch and drank coffee and spirits. We talked about our lives and our childhoods. We lamented about the old days and how we were looking forward to the new days ahead.

And then we came in and played Wii, an event I will not shortly forget and regret not getting on video tape.  You all should see Evita’s Wii bowling form.  She bowled a 145 her first game with her signature “Hop, Squat, STRIKE!” Wii-mote form.  I have to get it on tape. It’s sure to be a YouTube Top 10.

We all got to bed around 2, and slept in until around 9:30. Got up, made coffee in the new pot, and then had the most amazing Mu Shu Chicken Wraps.  It was a new Relish! recipe for me, and oh my Lord was it good.  I ended the day up with a giant nap on the couch, some bad TV, and fell asleep around 11 in bed all fat, warm, and incredibly happy.

Of course, how could you not be happy when you live with the cutest pirate on Earth who gives amazingly soft birthday kisses…
