Today is a big day. Beckett moved up from the Infant/Toddler program, and started his first day of Primary School! This is the hippie school version of Kindergarten. He’ll be in a class with other 3 year olds, as well as 4 and 5 year old students.
Yesterday afternoon, we went to visit his new classroom to check out all of the exciting new work he’ll be doing, and to meet his new teachers Ms. Ginny and Ms. Erica. Click on the picture above to see the pictures and read about Beckett’s new classroom. It’s pretty awesome.
He woke up this morning VERY excited about going to his new class, and about meeting his new friends. Basil drove him to school, and they encountered their first really big new step in moving up to Primary — The Carpool Lane!
We’ve been stressing pretty hard about the carpool lane because Beckett normally has to be dragged kicking and screaming into school every single morning. My theory is that Basil and I are just the World’s Most Awesome Parent, and hey, who can blame the kid for not EVER EVER wanting to be away from us. Either that, or the hippie school teachers must be secretly beating him with organic egg noodles and forcing him to listen to Joan Biaz records while crafting macrame potholders for single mothers in need.
To our great delight and astonishment, when Ms. Ginny approached the car to help Beckett out at the carpool lane, Beckett gave her a huge smile and a giggle. She asked him, “Are you ready to have the best day ever?”, and off they went hand in hand into the classroom.
Basil came home and put on Leather and Lace by Stevie Nicks, and we danced in his office. We both got a little verclempt. Our little monkey is growing up so fast. And we’ve never been more proud or happier. We’re ready to have the best day ever. Yes, we are.
