Beckett was blessed with natural good looks. Nice pink cheeks, big brown eyes, perfectly shaped eye-brows, and cute little finger nails. His hair is virtually ungroomable since the poor kid inherited my half straight and half curly phenomenon. But somehow, his messy locks look absolutely perfect on him. So, for Beckett, mornings are easy. A quick brush of the teeth, and he’s out the door looking like he just stepped out of some hip band’s album cover.

I love how Beckett and Camper John both have the same expression as the dragon in this picture.



Camper John is a friend of Basil’s who for a few months lived in the camper in our backyard. When he first moved in, Beckett would want to go play in the camper, and we would tell him, “No, honey, you can’t go in there. John is in there right now.” And Beckett would jump up and down and cry, “Uncle John is in there? Why can’t I go see Uncle John?”



My brother’s name is John. So, we realized we had John confusion. The nickname Camper John was born. And it’s stuck ever since.
