But hey, we’re Montessori 5 days a week. On the weekends, we’re a little bit outlaw. Life is all about balance, right?

For at least the last 6 months Beckett has refused to go into Basil’s office. Last night, I finally broke down and asked him why he wouldn’t go in, and he said, “Because that Halloween book that makes noises is in there!” The book he is talking about is the same book that two years ago he carried everywhere with him, and pushed all of the buttons until the poor werewolf sounded like a dying rat, and the laughing witch sounded like a cross between a bear and a screaming beaver.



So, we ceremoniously took the Halloween book to the dumpster, and said our goodbyes. After the book was removed from the property, Beckett went right into Basil’s office and asked for Baz to play music for him from his enormous vinyl collection. Basil broke out some Rolling Stones, and Beckett grabbed my ukulele and started strumming away and dancing. Basil joined in on a cardboard gift box drum, using a couple of spoons for drumsticks.

Our property sits on a major thoroughfare of power lines that fuel most of old North Anderson. Often, the Duke Energy trucks will come rolling onto our extra lot, and prune away brambles, branches, and whatever else they think might get in the way of the power lines.



In preparation for the winter, they came out this fall and really hacked down the tall brambles that were hiding this forgotten shed that sits on the vacant lot next door. Since the brambles have gone, this is pretty much the view out of my window.
